Zakisha

Zakisha Brown (@zakisha) is a Jamaican-Canadian hip hop artist, emcee & poet from Toronto, ON. She is apart of the largest growing poetry/hip hop movements in Canada called R.I.S.E. movement. Zakisha has opened up for artists such as Talib Kweli, Dru Hill, Nas and for the influential and acclaimed poet Saul Williams. In December 2019, she was offered a performance opportunity in Accra, Ghana. She fell in love with the culture, food, and kind ways of Ghanaians, hence her inspiration for her single “Went to Africa”. In the song she talks about black oppression, and how blacks need to come to Ghana/Africa to have a sense of identity. She was so inspired that she shot the video a week after returning to Toronto. Zakisha’s work really makes you think. She is an artist with a message, and we love the fact that she is so unapologetic in her delivery.
